Holy Toledo football fans, can you believe it's playoff time? Week 10 means crossover and play-in games for region 7. Sonoraville and Coach Gentry host Model, a rematch from week 2 when the Phoenix were 14-6 victors. Let's roll Phoenix and put some red and black all over those Blue Devils. This Friday is all about rematches and Big Blue entertains the Armuchee Indians in a rematch from August 12 when Central won the scrimmage 20-14. A lot has happened to and for each team since those hot summer times. Armuchee has a new head coach, former assisstant Preston Cash, who has guided the Indians to the verge of a state playoff appearance. Gordon Central still has Coach Chad Fisher, fortunately, and Big Blue has recorded only the 8th winning season in the history of Gordon Central. Having clinched 2nd place in the North sub-region last week, Blue brings a 6-3 overall and 4-2 region record into the play-in game. The team's pre-season goal was to make game 10 meaningful and Friday is as meaningful as it gets. Averaging almost 4 td's per game and giving up only 3 td's per game, Big Blue will be amped to secure their 7th victory and a place in the state playoffs. Go Big Blue! Calhoun, led by Coach Hal Lamb, are playing for their 11th consecutive region championship...11 is heaven! The slash and sling offense of Coach Michael Davis is averaging 44 points per game and the whack and smack defense of Coach Ricky Ross is giving up a state- second best of only 7 plus points per game. This is a rematch with Pepperell from week 3 which the Yellow Jackets won 39-7. This is a game the fans in Lindale have been waiting for since the Yellow Jackets broke their hearts at Lindale a few short years ago with a Rhett McGowan interrception very late in the game to preserve the Calhoun victory. The Dragons will try to keep the ball with a punishing ground game and the Jacket D will attempt again to force turn-overs or 3 and outs for the Jacket O to slash and sling it's way up and down the field. The stars for Calhoun are too numerous to mention...suffice to say the boys will be buzzing around the field to secure a W and march into the playoffs as the region champs. Go Yellow Jackets!
